Freelancer: New Character Mod

New Character Mod allows a new character to start with any faction. The new character starts with a basic ship and loadout for that faction at the nearest faction's base to Planet Manhattan, Planet New London, Planet New Tokyo or Planet New Berlin. The Junker/Hogosha CSV is now pilotable. Faction reputations have been modified to align them with info card descriptions and public and your faction's bases are now visible on the nav map from the start of the game.

Synth Foods and Cryer Pharmaceuticals don't have any bases but they are both Liberty corporations and representatives for them can be found in the commodities room at Planet Manhattan.

Golden Crysanthemums is a female dominated movement but unfortunately the female bodies and arms don't work for the main character. Trent is therefore wearing his civilian costume.

There are also civilian start locations for planets. Your ident card will carry the faction for that planet. If you are a civilian from Planet Pittsburgh then you will have the normal Trent body and your starting reputation will be of Deep Space Engineering. Civilians start with a civilian ship and a basic civilian loadout.

Ships and Loadouts

Civilian and corporation ships start with two Starbeam's. Other ships start with two guns that are the first in that factions line of guns. For example the Liberty Police and Liberty Navy start with two Justice Mk I's and the Outcasts start with two Dragoon Type 1's.

If the light fighter is not able to carry the factions weapon then the heavy fighter is used. Naval ships use heavy fighters as standard.

All ships are fitted with the most basic shield that is available at the base they start at. If this shield is two big for the ship then the nearest appropriate shield is fitted. All ships come with a scanner, tractor beam, three nanobots and three shield batteries.

As civilian start locations move towards the rim they become harder places to start. As factions move towards the rim then the weaponry and ships tend to improve. All things are not equal!

Factions

Faction reputations and empathy have been completely rewritten taking into account infocards, other factions found at the bar and the personality of the faction.

Visible Nav Map Locations

Public bases, planets with a civilian population, are visible in the nav map. If starting as a faction then that factions bases are also supplied in the nav map. Planets belonging to criminal factions are not considered public and are not visible unless you start as that faction.

Commodities and equipment are not available until you have docked at these bases, so buying information from people you meet can still be worth while.

How to Activate Each New Character

1. Open the mod folder and you will notice a subfolder called New Characters and a new character script file.
2. From the New Characters folder select the new character script you wish to use and copy it into the main folder of the mod.
3. Delete from the main folder of the mod the previous new character script.
